Why Block Paving Remains the Top Choice for Driveways in Liphook and the South East

With summer arriving and homeowners across Hampshire and Surrey turning their attention to outdoor improvements, block paving continues to be one of the most popular choices for driveways and patios in Liphook and the surrounding area. The UK landscaping industry has seen sustained demand for quality hard landscaping work this year, with homeowners investing in durable, low-maintenance surfaces that add long-term value to their properties.

Block paving offers a combination of practicality and aesthetics that few other driveway surfaces can match. Unlike tarmac or concrete, individual blocks can be lifted and replaced if damage occurs or if access to underground pipes is needed — meaning repairs are straightforward rather than requiring a full resurface. The range of colours, patterns, and finishes available today means homeowners can achieve a bespoke look that complements the style of their home and garden.

Drainage is another important consideration, particularly as local authorities increasingly require new driveways to manage surface water runoff. Permeable block paving systems allow rainwater to pass through the surface into a sub-base, reducing the risk of puddles and helping properties comply with current planning guidance. A skilled landscaper will ensure the sub-base is properly prepared and graded so that water drains away efficiently from the outset.

Choosing a reputable local contractor is essential for a result that lasts. The preparation beneath a block paved surface is just as important as the blocks themselves — poor sub-base compaction leads to sinking and movement over time. An experienced team will take the time to assess the ground conditions, excavate to the correct depth, and lay a properly compacted hardcore and sand bed before a single block is placed.
